You will have the opportunity to explore the city and take in the amazing architecture, which speaks for past populations all is your first stop of the day. Built by hand in 122 AD, its construction is extremely significant in British history, and it is one of the most visited cultural landmarks in the country. Jedburgh, a border town, is not far away. You will have the opportunity to explore the city and take in the amazing architecture, which speaks for past populations. It is famous for its links to royalty and historical warfare. The ruins of Jedburgh Abbey are breath-taking, and a visit is highly
recommended. Relax and take in the beautiful scenery as you travel through Scotland. The capital city is waiting for you, and your Expat Explore tour leader will show you around on an evening driving and orientation walking tour.
You are free to explore the city as you please today, and there is so much to see and do. Edinburgh, Scotland’s cultural capital, is home to stunning grey stone buildings, as well as architecture, art galleries, memorials, and higher education faculties. Wander around the Royal Mile’s authentic, unchanged cobbled streets and meander down to the Grass Market, where you’ll find a row of pubs where public hangings used to “entertain” the crowds. Edinburgh Castle is well worth the admission fee, and it takes a few hours to explore and learn about Scottish history and royalty—the views from the top are spectacular! Princes Street attracts shoppers from all over the world who want to buy souvenirs. The city comes alive at night, especially in the city centre’s bars and pubs, so why not enjoy a pint or a traditional whisky with the friendly locals?
We’re off to the Scottish Highlands this morning. The first stop is Loch Ness! Admire the views from the loch’s banks or take a 1-hour cruise on Loch Ness to try to spot “Nessie,” the famed Loch Ness Monster! Back on dry land, you can see Ben Nevis, Britain’s highest mountain. Later, visit one of Scotland’s oldest licenced whisky distilleries in Fort William and sample some authentic Scotch whisky! Stop at Glen Coe, a stunning glen (deep valley), on your way to the hotel. This is where the Massacre of Glencoe occurred in 1692. This evening’s dinner will be at your hotel.
If the thought of leaving Scotland makes your heart sink, rest assured that there are exciting adventures to be had in England today! As you cross the border into Liverpool, home to The Beatles and two world-famous Premier League football clubs, your Great Britain tour will take a modern history turn! On the way, you can take in the last of the Scottish scenery before arriving at the picturesque Lake District for lunch—the views are simply breath-taking! We will then arrive in Liverpool late in the afternoon, leaving you free to explore in the evening. After checking in, go to one of the many local pubs for dinner. There are numerous locations that are significant to the development of the world-class pop act that shaped modern music as we know it for Beatles fans. Liverpool, home to Paul, John, George, and Ringo, inspired timeless classics such as “Strawberry Fields Forever” and “Penny Lane.” The Cavern Club, where the Beatles performed hundreds of times, is the ideal place to spend your time in Liverpool.
This morning, we’ll take a driving tour of Liverpool, showing you the sights before heading to Stratford-upon-Avon, William Shakespeare’s birthplace. After an orientation tour of the quaint, historical village, you will have some free time to explore on your own. There are numerous Shakespearean attractions and historical sites to visit. For those who want to learn more about Shakespeare’s life, we can arrange an optional excursion to the home where he grew up as a child and also lived with his wife when they were newlyweds. Sliding into south Wales, you’ll have the opportunity to see a mediaeval castle before continuing on to Cardiff, the Welsh capital.
This is the final day of your British tour, and you’re not slowing down! The road from Wales to London is strewn with history, breath-taking scenery, and architectural marvels. The first stop of the day is Bath, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with some of Europe’s finest architecture. Join us on a town orientation tour and learn about the region’s historical significance, including the natural hot springs that supply the Roman baths, which are visited by over 1 million international tourists each year! Continuing on your journey, you have an optional excursion that could lead you to the solution of one of the world’s greatest mysteries. Need we say more about Stonehenge? You will be able to see an ancient and awe-inspiring structure that has perplexed scientists, tourists, and historians for centuries. As you board your Expat Explore coach for the final time on your Great Britain tour, take advantage of the opportunity to exchange contact information and share photos with new friends and fellow travellers before disembarking at your final stop in London.
